I usually keep their hair cut in more of a Teddy Bear puppy cut, rather than
the AKC standard you see in dog shows. I just like the look better. I cut their
hair at home. If I want a professional show cut, I take them to a groomer.

Yes, I did paint their hair different colors, but it was Halloween and I couldn't
find three costumes I liked.  Besides,  Maggie hated being in that tiara the
year before.

We go for car rides just for fun. Usually they each pick a window and enjoy
the wind in their hair. Maggie learned how to open the window and jumped
out to chase a squirrel so now I lock the windows part way open so they can
have their head out but not get out. Sometimes we go to the bank drive up
window because they give out dog treats there.

We also go for walks. I then found a double metal ring that swivels.I cut
three leashes off short and put snap hooks on the both ends. I put two
leashes onto one of the rings and the third on the other ring. I then attach a
regular  leash so I only have to really hold onto one leash.

There are no more leases all tangled up and not one of the dogs can be
ahead of the others so there is not more tugging and pulling me in all
directions.

Fortunately, Wheatens can be very tolerant
of their owner's odd sense of humor.

We are a suburban family
with three adult Wheatens:
    Maggie (the princess),
    Pebbles (the trouble maker) and
    Elmo (the gentleman).

Our dogs are all healthy and have been tested
for the typical genetic problems, including
PLN/PLE.

They are exceptional examples of their breed,
come from AKC Championship lines, and
have calm, loving dispositions.

I am not the type to show dogs, but I did want
the best dog I could get, healthy and good
disposition. I've had many dogs in my life,
from Chihuahuas to Golden Retrievers. Mutts
found in a box for free and some rescued from
the pound. I loved them all.

But when I got Maggie, my first Wheaten, it
was the first time I had really researched and
sought out the dog that would be best for my
personality and needs and not just selected a
puppy that needed saving.

We have had a couple litters, and will have
puppies again. I suppose that makes us a
hobby breeder. I prefer to think of us an ever
growing family.

Every adoptive home for one of the puppies
becomes a family member to me. I try to stay
in touch with them all, if they want. Many of
them send me photos, call or email with
updates or questions.

And once in awhile, I get lucky and they ask
me to baby sit.
