Maggie
Maggie was the runt of nine
puppies. All of her parents were
AKC, I saw the papers. The
problem was the owner wasn't sure
which of her two male wheatens
had sired which puppies, so there
were no papers for Maggie. I didn't
care. All I wanted was a good dog
Maggie has an Irish coat, which
means it is thinner and easier to
keep untangled than the American
coat. It is very soft. Many breeders
feel breeding Wheatens with Irish
coats to those with American coats
will keep the Wheatens in America
healthier by reducing in-line
breeding.
Maggie is the princess. She is the
alpha dog of my pack, mothering
every puppy she sees, and keeping
Elmo in line when he gets a bit too
goofy. She also has a thing for
black Labrador Retrievers. Flirting
with every one she encounters.
Playing fetch, going for car rides
with her head out the window, and
chasing squirrels are her favorite
things. She learned how to play
fetch watching my Golden Retriever.
Once she got big enough, and fast
enough to get to the ball first, the
Retriever gave up playing fetch.
Maggie also loves to curl up on the
couch to watch television shows
featuring animals. The Dog
Whisperer is her favorite. If a dog is
being naughty she rushes to the TV
and barks at it.

Maggie is a born mother.
Before having puppies, she had three false
pregnancies. This included building a nest in the
window well and collecting stuffed animals and
chewies to treat like her babies. Protecting them,
cleaning them, keeping them warm under her fur.
When she finally had her first litter, delivering her first
puppy on my son's bed while he slept, she knew just
what to do.
When Pebbles had a litter of puppies, Maggie wasn't
sure Pebbles was a very good parent so she would
sneak in and clean up the babies and even wet
nursed them.
Maggie weighs around 30 pounds and is much
smaller than Elmo. Soft Coated Wheaten
Terriers weigh between 30 and 40 pounds.
Maggie is the top dog, as she demonstrates with her special
place on the couch where she can keep an eye out the
window and look down at Elmo.
